I've also tried going into the sound options and turning everything off (like the 8-point something). I've also used the terminal to find the right sound output, like the thread says to do. What I have done is mess around with the video settings, usually 800圆00 fullscreen does a pretty good job but otherwise I've turned off all fancy filtering and basically anything having to do with Super Eagle. I remember getdeb had a good zsnes package, one that was better than the one in the repo. So that's probably enough description to tell you that it's not an onboard one. I have me a sound card on the PCI board, or whatever it's called. (although i did get the problem when compiling zsnes from svn). I have one, but fortunately, i never encountered the problem using the packages from the repo. I've stated in several of those "ZSNES crackly sound" threads that there is a known issue of zsnes having crackly sound on computers with onboard (built-in) sound chips. ZSNES equipped with a ton of highly advanced features that helps you to run a SNES easily without any sort of hindrance. The only way to have sound is a compatibility layer that introduces unacceptable crackling.

Even under su (I know that's a bad idea, but I had to try). The audio output from Retroarch sounds the same as on the original console, unless the core is unable to run at full speed. They also don't have permission to do jack crap with any settings I make. I've tried Snes9express and gsnes9x, which are basically the same, but neither can pick up my MS Sidewinder OLD SCHOOL dpad controller (but everything else can, seeing how I've added the modules for it to the modprobe file at bootup). My card is an old crap 64MB one but it would handle SNES games just fine on Windows.Īlso using Xubuntu so there shouldn't be memory hogs around.

I used Envy to install propriety nVidia drivers. And some frame issues but those aren't a huge deal. I used this thread () to fix the major crackling, but it still seems that games WILL crackle no matter what I do with the settings in the Sounds options. Yes, I did do a search through the forums because there are plenty of other "ZSNES is being crackly" threads. You see, I can't manage to get sound going. Here's the thing SNES games run with trouble.

Speculation of course, but you are making a lot of assumptions about the time, resources and effort they actually put into this stuff. For all we know they might have extremely limited official documentation so have to reverse engineer the chips functionality. Maybe it's because I'm not playing with power, but the thing is I can manage to run Genesis games nearly perfectly (thanks Gens ()!) and NES games of course very easily (with that GFCE Ultra NES Emulator). But Nintendo didnt make the sound chip in the SNES, Sony did.
